From a number of smallholder farmers in the Mt. Kenya region, each of who farm about 150-200 coffee trees. Mt. Kenya is the tallest mountain in Kenya, and the second tallest in Africa, after Kilimanjaro. This coffee is named after Mt. Kenya’s second-highest peak, Lenana — a visit to which will take an adventurous climber past rainforest, moorlands, gorges and jagged peaks. On clear days, Mt. Kilimanjaro is visible from Lenana, 200 miles across the savannah.

This Lenana AA is from Genuine Origin who sources it from Taylor Winch Ltd in Nairobi where they receive the freshly picked cherries at cooperative mills. The cherries are disc pulped, fully fermented, washed, sun-dried on elevated dry- ing tables, hulled, and graded according to size and density. I roast these beans to a full city plus, which is on the slightly darker side of a medium roast. It makes an exquisite espresso with a half inch of crema or a smooth, bold cold brew, pour over or drip.
